Double Exposure

I have learnt how to use Adobe After Effects to make a double exposure image to show different emotions. The First image I made, I encountered alot of errors and mistakes trhat i made, However i soon learnt to adapt to these mistakes and make my image look more smoother and better contrasted. Since then i now know whenever i want to make a different project i need to create a new composition with a starting image. Furthermore i have improved my skill in using the pen tool to select the specific parts of the image that i needed.

Using Adobe after affects, I learnt how to download a green screen model of the internet and apply a backround to create a scene. I did this by using the tool “key light” which allowed me to choose the parts of the image i wanted to keep by changing the amount of black after afffects would clip. also to make it look more smooth i duplicated my lair and lowered the screen grow and upgraded the screen softness to add a blur.

VFX1. Be able to plan, design and implement a shoot to acquire elements for a visual effect.

VFX2. Be able to convert acquired elements from camera to computor in preporation for compositing phase

VFX3. Be able to use compositing tools and techniques to create a sequence that blends live footage with computer generated elements

VFX 4. Demonstrate an appropriate critical eye for detail and good aesthetic judgement

VFX 5. Know how to organise post production pipeline and scheduling

While learning about Premiere i learnt about the razor tool that i can use to snip down the clips of video and images, i also learnt how to delete the different parts of audio if it is not needed.

I learned how to mask in order to create one object and place it over a moving object, this allowed me to place the character into the bin without changing the frame, I filmed 3 different scenes and edited them in premier to create a camera trick. One mistake that i could have improved on is that i did not make a plan which limited my creation on the camera trick.

I learnt how to use the masking tool in order to create a smooth swap of scene which allowed the bin to be overlapping one frame. This process was really easy to learnt and the outcome was successful, i learnt that when i mask i must always use the shadows captured in the scene.

My idea for the camera trick is to make it look like a person cutting through a cupboard door and then appearing out with maybe a sweater or a jumper being left behind. This would approximately take 4 shots unless we think of more ideas to create.

whilst making the video for a person jumping into the cupboard, i soon realized that we did not record a clip of the cupboard shutting which meant that i had to improvise, i did this by photo shopping the different stages of the door and added them to the scene making it look like the door was closing but in separate parts, we also realized that when the person jumped they jumped too high and we did not get their head in the frame when they were at max height which meant, that we had to use a different frame, one which made him closer to the ground which in general did not look as good as it could have. However, overall we realized that in the future, to improve we will plan more and make sure to record every little bit of detail that we need for the video. As well as that, i would go back and try to make the scene look more realistic.

Cut-out of high jump

The process of transferring the video from the SD card to the Computer to edit was fairly easy all i had to do was plug the SD card into the Computer and open up the folder that i wanted, next i needed to find the right video that i recorded for my magic scene and transfer that over to premier and after affects.

Matte Painting

raw footage

On Photoshop i managed to be able to paint the scaffolding out of my scene because of the clone stamp tool. I originally planned to create the scene 80 years ago but then i decided that it would be really hard to create the reality of it being old, so i decided to create it so it looked like it was in the future. We picked this place to capture what happens because it was the most open place we could find and it was very easily modified. The little area that we filmed at was quite accesable as the camera was positioned far away and the actor looked very small allowing us to create more around the scene.

The one thing i did wrong was the fighter jet because soon after i realized that i did not upload the right plane to that era which made the scene unrealistic. However, i was able to correct these errors a week later and i didn’t use a green screen instead i just used key frames. As well as that, i was not fully able to make the windows on the top left blend in as well as the other matte painted objects, The side of the building also went a bit messy when i could not use the stamp tool correctly in order to create the realistic feel. In the future i will try and improve my matte painting project by watching movies with matte painting included and take notes which will allow me to make major improvements in my work.

2D Tracking Project

So my starting idea is that i am going To have sparks come out of my fingers, then act surprised then i am going to shoot out lighting bolts near the camera and there will be a big explosion. This will be done by the 2D tracking in after affects. A trick that i will use is the effect in after affects which allow them to make lightning realistic.
